Before migrating off their Windows 2003 domain, the Systems Administrator of a $100M property management company wanted to learn about the new management features of Active Directory Services in Windows 2008 R2. In our HOT Lab, we demonstrated how to have complete desktop and application control with Group Policy using policies such as AppLocker, Software Installation, and Folder Redirection. This admin wanted learn how other companies structure their Active Directory infrastructure, since he had only been exposed to the domain structure as set-up by his predecessor. We explained how most companies configure Active Directory using Organizational Units (OU) and security groups, and ran the Microsoft Active Directory Best Practices Analyzer (ADBPA) for our HOT Lab domain to analyze and explain the results.
